Grooming Done

I had my grooming done but mummy was too busy with work and had no time to upload any peektures. Chinese New Year is round the corner and mummy had so much preparations to do such as cleaning the house and putting up some festive decorations. The grooming wasn't fantastic but we don't have a choice. The groomer suppose to be a mastergroomer and charge us for mastergroomer price but it was just a very normal trim and maybe not even done by the master groomer herself. Mummy also spotted that my ear wasn't clean properly and I had been scratching. She found my ear to be quite waxy and had to do another round of cleaning for me and to monitor if I will develop yeast. The equipment use to pluck my ear hair may not be sterilised. Mummy not gonna send me there anymore. Lucky for jie jie Fluffy, mummy groom her without having to send her to the groomer.

I just hope that mummy and grandma will remember to get us our new year goodies too. Mummy had not bought us any new year clothes. She will try to post some of jie jie Fluffy's previous peektures. As for me, my hair is too "pong" (fluff and big) and mummy say I look very weird in dresses. :(

Yaya Groomer vs Goodie Groomer

There’s a pet shop near my place and mummy had not sent me there for their grooming before. When mummy pop by the shop, the owner have a big fat CKCS. When mummy tried to book grooming for me, she didn’t like the attitude of the owner and there isn’t much review about the grooming here. When mummy look at the pictures sticking on the wall, she hesitated to send me there for grooming. Eventually I was sent to Bark and Bubbles and mummy is quite happy with the grooming except that they didn’t give me water to drink when I was there and I slurp up almost half a bowl of water when I reached home. Mummy called B & B to feedback on this and they promise to remember to give me water next time.

During Dec, mummy wanted to try the Pet shop near my place again but it was fully booked for the month of Dec. Mummy had been busy trying to complete her work before her vacation so she had not booked me with B & B. Come this Jan, mummy try to book with the shop nearby again and the owner told her that she didn’t have her appointment book with her and ask mummy to call back. Mummy then sms to check if she is available for the 1^st wkend in Jan and she replied that “this wkend is full”. Mummy then ask if she has slot next wkend or wk after. We never hear any reply….

Few days later, mummy sms the shop owner again to ask if any of the other wkend is avail, we had not heard from her. Oh well, the shop owner’s reply was rude, just say “aei, I reply you liao ma, already told you all wkends are quite packed till New Year.” I wonder what kind of person is this to say quite packed… so not fully packed la~ I think she is not interested in getting new business, she is toooooooo busy I guess.

I had enough! If mummy is ever going to think of sending me there, I’ll protest. As for B & B, aunty A was prompt to reply to say fully booked and only avail after 13^th Feb. This is good of her to tell us she is full and when is the next date available. Mummy manage to finally source for a available groomer near our regular pet shop. I will go for my hair styling this Sat. Yippee… But it will be a looooong walk for me.

Mummy did not spend Christmas with us

Mummy and ah ma is going on a vacation and she left on Christmas day! This is the worst Christmas we have. No goodies, no yummies and we only have godma and eh yi croc to look after us :(

We tried to smuggle ourselves into her luggage but we failed. Nevertheless, we had great fun making ourselves cozy in the bag.

Ah.... it's quite squashy in here.... no good.It's so cozy..... I'm sleepy... I'll think of a plan after I take a nap.When I wakes up, Porsche has already joined me in the bag. There's not enough space for both of us and I tried to shoo her but she just wouldn't leave.Porsche begs me, she promise to be cooperative and will be as quiet as possible and wouldn't be a cry baby. Yup, she's good at negotiating. who can resist my cute lil sis's charm. Oh man, we didnt succeed. Mummy found us and there goes our plan to tag along.
Nevertheless, we had great fun messing up mummy's luggage and for being such a good ;i; gal, I give Porsche a kiss. (tho I am kinda still sulking about the tough luck we had)

We wish mummy, aunt and ah ma have a great vacation.

Bad Bad rashes..shoo shoo

I had been scratching, scratching, chewing and chewing. I am not having a good time and I had to hide from mummy whenever I wanna scratch scratch. The itch is killing me... arghhhhh!

Mummy spotted nasty rash on me and she applied antiobotic cream for me and observe me. Why wud she observe me? What's there to observe other than catching me in th act of chewing my butt, my paw and my art or balancing when scratching my chest with my hind legs. I almost thought she changed my name coz I lept hearing her call me NO! No! No!... hmm have she named me Nono?

Here's the pic she took to show the vet when she brought me there. Ah... nasty ones. I was given 2 bottles of antibiotic to be taken and lots of antihistamin. Anti what??? Anti His tamin... Who is the he in me? I'm a gal.

Cherish Me

We read about Herbie the GR that mummy acquainted few years ago had gone to the rinbow bridge. Mummy was all sniffy when she read aunty S's entry on Herbie's blog. Mummy felt that she had not been spending enough quality time with us or taking us out more often.

We know it was hard on mummy to have to work and take care of us both alone. She also under the pressure to be able to bring home the bread. She has 2 mouths to feed and I am not in very good health since young and each visit to the vet cost quite an amount.

I know we had a much shorter lifespan than a human baby and we sleep most of the time. Not only mummy wants to spend more time with us, we want to try to spend more time with her too. We are learning to cherish each other. Mummy had not been taking much photos for us lately other than some snapshot from her mobile. She will try to upload and keep as much pix of us as possible.

Escape Artist

They have been too complacent and had not think about that I will strike again. The famous Fluffy the Master of illusion. Nothing beats the the magnificent howling power of Porsche the Howler tho. Mummy left for her hair treatment appointment on Satand I just missed her so much. I thought she came back or was it Bree, our neighbour’s barking that caught my attention. I just wanna peek through the gate but before I realized, I had “teleported” from inside the house to outside the house!

I do not know how to get back in and it is so dangerously as I don’t know who may come by, especially the “BEE BO BEE BO gu bo zhua, radio tian xi ki” man. He might catch me and sell me by weight. I had to get my dearest sister who’s secret power is her earth shattering howling. Porsche came to my rescue as she began to howl and howl. Finally we got SF’s attention but she didn’t know why Porsche is howling and crying about. She kept bid and call Porsche to return to the living room. But Porsche my faithful one refuse to budge.

SF had no choice but come over to check what’s going on. Then she realized, looking at my skinny furless…ooops I mean fur little body with innocent eyes. She get the keys to open the gate to let me in. Ah! Safe at last and I kiss and kiss SF hoping she will keep this between her and me. Hush Hush, don’t tell mummy. But what a dull human, she didn’t get the message! Yes, mummy hear of everything.

Mummy planning to do some fencing and re-inforcement to the gate on Monday. Yikes.

Porsche's Birthday

I didnt have the most fantastic birdday. Mummy didnt feel very well today. She bath me and gae us the new treats she bought from uncle M's shop ydy. Lots of pampaering from Ah ma, godma and aunty. I miss 2nd aunt, she is out of town and I wish I could remind her that she still owes us chestnut. Mummy said the usual birdday prayer for me. It was a hot hot day and we just laze at home. I wish mummy could do something better for me in my next birdday, I am a very good girl and I'm sure she will if she can.

Jie Jie was very very close to me and she seems to knwo it's my birdday and she came to sleep beside me and plop her head on my neck. I love mummy and jie jie.

Happy Birthday to ME

My new Hairdo for 2007

I am having recurring rashes and mummy decides to give me a really really short hair cut. A puppy cut is not short enough she says. She told uncle M to give me a Schnauzer cut!!! I froze... why? While I was having my hair cut (half the time I was so worried that mummy will sneak off and also how I am going to look) Mummy was enjoying herself playing with all the Dogs at uncle M's shop. :(



She was giving Sable ooshy ossie face rub, Buddy plompy fur rub, snuggling with Pheobe, Alfie on her lap and Ricky a body massage!!! While I was inside the grooming room being shave. Oh well, all is worth it, I look so cute after the haircut an reminds us so much of Bisou. I will post my new hair cut and a pix of Bisou, see if you know who is who.

Smelly mouth

Mummy, aunties and even SF are complaining that my mouth smelled. It wasn’t my fault! I have long long coat, my eyes tears and soak the fur near my eye and mouth wet + mummy hardly brushes my teeth. Oh well, mummy can’t stand it no more, she was waken by my killer breath when I was panting right down her face. Yes, it is that bad!

So last night, mummy got our soft toothbrush out and start brushing our teeth with the CET toothpaste. Oh, did I mentioned that she got us the CET chews but we didn’t like it. She also bought charcos for us, we like it but mummy suspect Fluffy is allergic to the poultry content in there. Fluffy is very allergic to Chicken. Anyway, mummy is going to brush our teeth daily now, she spotted plaque on our teeth and that is not healthy for us. She doesn’t want to put us thru GA for dental scaling too often. I am more co-operative when mummy is brushing, I like the taste of the toothpaste but Fluffy is not that good gal with the brushing.

We were rewarded with petite greenie after the brushing and we smell heavenly…. But mummy watches us when we have our chews and keep telling us to chew and slow down. We are good girls, we listen.

Birthdays

My birthday was just over. It’s on 9 Aug and the nation celebrates my birthday too. I had been watching fireworks at grandma’s place. I missed the days when aunty K and mummy brought me to Kallang Park and I get to see the amazing fireworks above my head. Jie jie Cocoa is quite frightful of the loud noise the fireworks make as it reminds her of thunder. Mummy baked beef balls for both Porsche and moi, we just spend the lazy afternoon together at grandma’s place. Nothing special this year and mummy is trying to think of something interesting for us next year.

Porsche birthday is on the way, 9 Sep and mummy is contemplating about getting the pet stroller so she can take us out without having to carry us or make us walk long distances. We miss going to the beach, or I should say I miss going as Porsche had never been to the beach. There is a LTA survey going on asking if the humans don’t mind pets on MRT and train station. I hope they allow us on bus too, so we can take the Sentosa bus to the beach.

Bad news

Mummy went to attend aunty J’s wedding last night. Porsche and I had already sent our wishes to aunty J weeks ago. When the dinner is over, mummy catch a ride from uncle J and only then knew about what happen to An An. I had met An An once but didn’t get to sniff him, I was too nervous when I am outside with too many dogs around. I heard about his story and how uncle J finally rescued him.

Just last week, mummy found out that uncle M had also lost Smokee. She haven’t had the chance to catch up with uncle M and visit Ricky. She hope to do so soon so she could have some nice “pet therapy” chit chat with uncle M as he phrase it.

Then we heard about jie jie Cocoa having torn ligament in her hind knee. She needed treatment and not surgery due to her age. The treatment is not too “friendly” for her current liver conditions. She needs lots of prayer and also proper care. Mummy had given some suggestion to aunty K and is hoping to hear better news from aunty K soon.

There is way too much bad news lately…

Sweet Dream and Happy Mother's day

I just can't say enough how mummy love us and how much we love her. when there is food scare, she cooks and prepare meal for us. She take care of our need before she takes care of her own. She tries to make it up to us for places she can't take us like dog run or the beach. I am contented and happy just being with mummy. I love her so much that dreaming of her makes me smile even in my dreams.

Hunting for a trustworthy Groomer

Mummy was not able to groom me for a long time due to her bad back. She had not groom Porsche at all because she say she can’t handle long coat. We had been going to a groomer who is nice and gentle with us but mummy didn’t like the fact that we get pick up around noon and only come home around 8pm+ at night. It is usual if we need the groomer to fetch us. So mummy start to hunt for alternative nearer to our place.

Mummy and us pop by a petshop within walking distance to enquire about grooming. The groomer didn’t give us a very friendly impression. She keep pointing at Porsche commenting that mummy have to comb Porsche fur and that she can see a matt forming. For goodness sake, the groomer look at Porsche’s fur as if there is an infectious boil forming. We had just played the whole afternoon and I was going at Porsche fur gnawing and chewing her. If mummy hasn’t comb Porsche, I think Porsche will be a mattball now. Isn’t it that a groomer should do some minimal dematting, comb thru before bathing the dog. Well, this groomer or should I say groaner failed, mummy is not comfortable with the way she react and will not be comfortable to place Porsche under there care to groom. The last groomer we went to, had no complaint about matts. There was once when Porsche was used as a guinea pig to try out a certain shampoo and conditioner that aunty J concoct, she had so much matts. Mummy couldn’t even dematt her. So had to get the groomer to do the dematting.

Today mummy called another groomer after reading lots of rave about their grooming services.

Baked Lamb

I though I will share a few recipes that my 2 girls love. I made this for their birthday last year because I do not have time to bake them their birthday cake.

Ingredients
- Lamb steak 400gm. Cut into bite size cubes
- 1.5 tablespoon Honey (raw, organic or manuka honey)*
- 1 teaspoon of crushed rosemary (u can buy this from the herbs section at supermarket)
- 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
- 2 cloves of garlic chopped finely
- 40 pcs Farfalle pasta (look and are commonly referred to as bowties)
- 1 teaspoon olive olive oil

Preparations
Season lamb steak with honey, rosemary and chopped garlic. Cover it and leave it in the fridge for 1 hour.
Cook the pasta, drain and mix in the olive oil. Set aside for later.
Line the baking tray with aluminium foil and grease it with butter.
Place the lamb on the foil and cover with another sheet of foil over the baking tray.
Bake at 160 deg C for 1 hour.

When lamb is ready, serve it with 10 pcs of pasta per portion.

This recipe make about 4 portions for a maltese. 2 portion for medium size dog and 1 portion for a large dog. You can adjust the amount accordingly.

I wish I had taken picture for this but didnt have the opportunity. Perhaps I will if I bake this the next time.



*Honey are not suitable for puppies.

HCF Beef Rice

Today mummy begin cooking for us and this is what she prepared for us.

Beef Rice
1 cup rice
250gms minced beef
1 medium size carrot
1 clove garlic(finely chopped or grated)

Cooked rice in rice cooker.
Add beef and rest of the ingredient when it boils.
Stir lightly.

It is just so quick and easy to prepare. This amount is 2 days worth of food for 2 malteses like us.

Pet Food Recall scare

I first heard of the petfood re-call was from aunty K in Canada. She wrote to mummy and tld her out many poor lil pups & cats had died from melamine poisoning. The affected food was not sold here and that is a relief. Just when we thought it doesn't affect us, the premium brand food we used to eat is also doing a voluntary re-call. Mummy was relief that we had aleady switched to another premium brand 2 weeks ago.

Then we heard bad news in USA and South Africa that they are recalling this brand too. Mummy got worried and had to put us on home cooked food until she is very sure that the food are safe for us.

Upset Stomach

Porsche wasn’t quite herself and not wanting to sleep. She kept licking the bedsheets, blanket on my bed and constantly licking her own nose. It is getting late and she wouldn’t sleep. I reprimanded her but she didn’t stop. I got worried and got up to check her muzzle, gums, teeth to see if any foreign object is stuck there that cause this licking spree. I check her breathing by closing her mouth and listen to the air that flow from her nose. It sounded constant and normal.

 

I heard a slight rumbling in her stomach and I got my stethoscope to listen to the sound closely. Her breathing sound alright but her stomach sounded very “happening”. I decided to give her a dose of Mylanta to see if there calms her.  I rub some peppermint oil on her troubled tummy too.  The medicine began to work and she begin to calm down and not licking her own nose that frantically.

 

It took me an hour to pat her to sleep and I am already exhausted. I decide to read up and find out why the licking.  It turn out that it is behaviour in dogs that is under stressed. Stressed can be cause by pain from her troubled stomach.  She didn’t whine so it is not so alarming. But sometimes we do not know why they do something odd and it can be very worrying.

 

I hope to share my little experience here so if anyone come across similar situation, I hope you wouldn’t be as lost as me. What I learn through out the years is, once your dog behave apart from the norm and does something weird, it is always good to check on them.  Though it may not be life threatening situation but at least you can reduce the pain they have to go through before you realized what is going on.

 

Meal Time

Cookies from my neighbour's little girl

 It was like any other ordinary Sunday night.  We had spent the day at grandma’s place and came home.  Mummy was tired from swimming and wasn’t exactly in a mood for anything except to get us ready for bedtime by washing out paws. Suddenly there’s someone outside banging on the gate and Jie Jie start barking.  Mummy look thru the peephole but sees nobody… then she saw our neighbour’s little girl standing outside their gate.  Mummy thought for a moment and thinks that we all heard wrongly, it isn’t our gate.  Not tonite, mummy has no energy left to stay up for our neighbour’s little girl. Then it came again… BANG BANG BANG, the gate and the door at the same time. Something is not right, no neighbour will do that, maybe there’s an emergency. Mummy hurried over to open the door and there she was, holding a packet of dog cookies.  The lovely little girl bought us a big packet of cookies!

 

Her mummy told our mummy that they bought the cookie last week but there was no respond at the door. Mummy told them that we may not be home yet. Our little neighbour urge mummy to open the cookies so she can feed us. Yippee!!!  It was tasty muesli cookies. A very pleasant surprise on a late Sunday night. God Bless the little angel that brought us cookies.
